Warriors Close Inaugural Season With Loss To BenU

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's volleyball team closed its inaugural season against No. 7 Benedictine on Friday for Senior Night inside the Recreation Complex. The Warriors fell 3-0 to the Eagles by scores of 25-11, 25-10, and 25-15.

  • The Warriors scored the first two points of the opening set, but a 12-1 Benedictine run gave the visitors a quick nine-point advantage. A kill from junior Sean Daniels (Racine, Wis.) cut into the deficit by a couple points, but the Eagles scored five straight to force a WLC timeout. Wisconsin Lutheran got back-to-back kills from senior Alex Rivera (Milwaukee, Wis.) and freshman Grant Wempner (Garden Grove, Calif.) but BenU closed set one by a score of 25-11.
  • The Eagles opened the second set with four straight points until a kill from sophomore Joe Flett (St. Anthony, Minn.) put the Warriors on the board. Benedictine closed the set with a 13-2 run to take a two-set lead.
  • Benedictine took a four-point lead in the third set, but WLC cut the lead down to one at 5-4 following a pair of blocks from Daniels and freshman Logan Gryzwa (Delafield, Wis.). The Eagles responded with six consecutive points and closed the sweep with a 25-15 victory in the third set.

  • Rivera paced the team with four kills as the Warriors recorded 11 as a team for a -.054 hitting percentage.
  • Freshman Isaac Stellick (Taichung, Taiwan) recorded a team-high six assists. Rivera finished with a team-high four digs.
  • Senior Evan O'Leary (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) tallied a service ace for Wisconsin Lutheran.

  • Nathan Klimisch posted a team-high eight kills on a .583 hitting percentage to lead the Eagles, while Chase Olson added six kills. As a team, Benedictine recorded 32 kills to go along with a .357 hitting percentage.
  • Chandler Olson finished with 15 assists, and Kyle Vasquez led the team with five digs.

  • The Warriors wrapped up their inaugural season with a 0-13 overall record and a 0-11 mark in NACC play.
