Warriors Drop Two At Home To Lakeland

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team dropped a pair of NACC home games against Lakeland on Sunday afternoon at Neumann Family Softball Field. The Warriors fell 4-1 in game one and lost 5-4 in the second game to the Muskies.

• Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (11-23, 4-12 NACC), Lakeland (9-18-1, 8-8 NACC)
• Location: Neumann Family Softball Field, Wauwatosa, Wis.

• The Muskies scored twice in the first, with both runs coming with two outs. A triple to right field drove in the first run, and the second scored on a single to left field.
• In the bottom half of the inning, the Warriors got a one-out double from senior Maddie Lindemann (Watertown, Wis.) and a single from sophomore Jena Almodovar (Romeoville, Ill.) to put runners on the corners. Lindemann scored after the runner on first was caught in a rundown to cut the deficit to one.
• Lakeland increased its lead to 4-1 with runs in both the second and third innings. Back-to-back two-out singles in the second scored one run, and the second crossed the plate on a double to left center in the third.
• Wisconsin Lutheran threatened with runners in scoring position in both the fifth and sixth innings, but was unable to close the gap as the Muskies took game one 4-1.
• Lindemann went 2-for-3 with a run scored as the Warriors recorded six hits.
• Almodovar was charged with the loss in the circle after allowing four runs in four innings. Freshman Kacey Mietsner (Elwood, Ill.) tossed three scoreless innings in relief while striking out four.

• Lakeland took a two-run lead in the first inning on a RBI groundout and a two-out single through the left side. The Warriors answered with one run in the bottom of the first after a leadoff double by junior Aerin Moberg (Wheaton, Ill.) led to a sacrifice fly from Almodovar.
• WLC tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth after a throwing error allowed junior Avery Blauvelt (Wellman, Iowa) to advance two bases and score.
• The Muskies regained the lead in the fifth on a two-out, RBI single to center field.
• In the bottom half of the inning, Wisconsin Lutheran took a 4-3 lead after a fielding error helped Moberg and freshman Bre Hoy (McHenry, Ill.) to score.
• Lakeland tied the game with one run in the sixth on a double to left center and took the lead on a one-out single to right field.
• The Warriors put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, but the Muskies escaped the inning with a flyout and a fielder's choice groundout.
• Freshman Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) finished 2-for-3 as the Warriors posted eight hits.
• Almodovar dropped to 9-10 on the season after allowing the go-ahead run in relief in the seventh.

• Emyli Kreiser finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in game one for Lakeland. Leah Binsfeld picked up the win, throwing all seven innings and allowing just one run and striking out three.
• Binsfield drove in two runs, including the winning run in the seventh inning. She also improved to 5-8 with her second win of the day in the circle, allowing one earned over seven innings.

• The Warriors close their 2021 season with a four-game conference series next weekend against Alverno (1-23, 0-16 NACC). On Friday, WLC host the Inferno for Senior Day in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
