WLC Drops Two Against CUW In NACC Lidlifter

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team opened its conference schedule with two games against NACC foe Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday. The Falcons swept the Warriors 11-0 and 12-5 at Neumann Family Softball Field.

• The Falcons jumped on the Warriors for six runs on six hits in the top of the first inning. Concordia Wisconsin opened the scoring with a two-run home run to left center, and three RBI singles plated four more runs.
• CUW added five more runs in the third inning to push its advantage to 11-0. The Falcons loaded the bases and drove home runs with a pair of RBI singles along with a fielder's choice and an error.
• Freshman Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) and junior Katie Scott (Sallisaw, Okla.) each connected on singles in the bottom of the fourth, but the WLC inning ended with a strikeout.
• Concordia Wisconsin retired the side in order in the fifth to secure an 11-0 win in game one.
• Martin finished with a pair of hits to lead the Warriors offense. Wisconsin Lutheran recorded three hits as a team.
• Freshman Hannah Jordan (Yorkville, Ill.) was charged with the loss in the circle after allowing nine earned runs across five innings.

• Concordia Wisconsin scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. The first two runs scored on a single to right field, and the third run came around to score on a double to center field.
• Wisconsin Lutheran responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Senior Maddie Lindemann (Watertown, Wis.) singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch and Martin drew a walk to put two runners on. Senior Charolette Ropas (New Berlin, Wis.) drove home both runners with a double to right field and the Warriors trailed by one heading into the second inning.
• The Falcons got a run back in the second with a RBI double to right field to extend the lead back to two runs. The visitors added four more runs in the fifth inning on four hits to hold an 8-2 advantage after five.
• WLC cut the deficit in half with three runs in the sixth inning on three straight hits with two outs. With runners on second and third, freshman Bre Hoy (McHenry, Ill.) doubled to right field to score two runs and a single by freshman Katie Stoltenberg (Lodi, Wis.) drove home Hoy.
• CUW scored twice in the seventh to close out a 12-5 game two victory.
• The Warriors recorded eight hits, with freshman Bri Biermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored.
• Freshman Kacey Mietsner (Elwood, Ill.) was handed the loss, allowing eight earned runs in four and two-thirds innings.

• Gina Followell picked up the win in game one. She tossed five scoreless innings and struck out 10 batters. The Falcons recorded 12 hits as a team, with Ashley Zappa finishing 2-for-2 with three RBI.
• Concordia Wisconsin recorded 15 hits, with seven players posting multiple hits in game two. Gabbi Gaziano led the team with three hits and Nikki Becker picked up the win in the circle.

• The Warriors will play two road games again against Concordia Wisconsin (12-4, 2-0 NACC) on Monday afternoon. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
