Softball Shuts Out Alverno For Senior Day Sweep

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team celebrated Senior Day with a pair of run-rule shutouts over Alverno on Friday afternoon at Neumann Family Softball Field. The Warriors won both games in five innings over the Inferno, 11-0 and 8-0.

  • The Warriors took a quick 2-0 lead over the Inferno in the first inning on three hits. Junior Aerin Moberg (Wheaton, Ill.) scored in an error from third and freshman Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) followed with a RBI double that plated senior Maddie Lindemann (Watertown, Wis.).
  • WLC added six runs on five hits in the second inning to take a commanding eight-run lead. Moberg, Lindemann, and sophomore Jena Almodovar (Romeoville, Ill.) each collected RBI hits in the frame.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran scored for the third straight inning with three runs on four hits in the third. Freshman Bre Hoy (McHenry, Ill.), Moberg, and Martin were credited with RBI in the inning.
  • Moberg and Lindemann tallied three hits apiece in the game one win for WLC, which finished with 14 hits as a team.
  • Almodovar allowed just one hit, a single in the fourth inning, en route to her 10th win of the season in the circle. She struck out six and didn't issue a walk.

  • After a scoreless first inning, the Warriors plated three runs in the second on RBI doubles from freshman Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.) and junior Katie Scott (Sallisaw, Okla.) for a three-run lead.
  • WLC capitalized on a trio of Inferno fielding errors in the third inning to score five runs while adding three hits. Martin, freshman Briana Vilches (Fontana, Calif.), and Almodovar each collected hits in the inning for the Green and White. 
  • Almodovar went 2-for-2 to lead the Warriors in game two, while six other players posted one hit each. 
  • Freshman Kacey Meitsner (Elwood, Ill.) picked up her first win of the season in the circle, tossing a five-inning, three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts.
  • WLC honored its two seniors, Lindemann and Charolette Ropas (New Berlin, Wis.), during a between-game ceremony.

  • Sara Jankowski registered the only hit of the game for the Inferno in the opener. Natalie Akin allowed eight runs, six earned, over two innings to suffer the loss.
  • Jankowski collected two of her team's three hits in game two and Izzy Torres took the loss in the circle as she gave up eight runs, five earned, over three innings.
