CUW Stymies Warriors' Offense In Monday Doubleheader

MEQUON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team was held to six hits throughout both games of a NACC doubleheader on Monday against conference foe Concordia Wisconsin. The Falcons won both games from the Warriors by scores of 7-0 and 5-1 at Catalyst Park.

  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (7-13, 0-4 NACC), Concordia Wisconsin (14-4, 4-0 NACC)

  • The Falcons struck for a pair of runs in the second inning with two outs after a RBI single and fielding error allowed both runs to score.
  • The Warriors put two runners on base in the third, but CUW escaped without allowing a run. The hosts added a sac fly in their half of the third for a three-run lead.
  • Concordia Wisconsin plated four runs on five hits in the fifth inning for a 7-0 lead. WLC had one runner reach base in the seventh but was held off the scoreboard in the opener.
  • Senior Maddie Lindemann (Watertown, Wis.) and freshman Katie Stoltenberg (Lodi, Wis.) each recorded a hit for the Warriors. Freshman Kacey Meitsner (Elwood, Ill.) gave up six earned runs and struck out three in six innings in the circle. 

  • CUW capitalized on two fielding errors and had three hits to score four runs in the second inning of the nightcap.
  • Freshman Bri Biermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) hit her first career homerun to leadoff the third inning for WLC and cut the deficit to 4-1.
  • The Falcons added their final run in the fifth on a RBI groundout.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran had its first two batters reach base in the seventh via singles, but the Falcons retired the next three in order to complete the sweep.
  • Senior Charolette Ropas (New Berlin, Wis.) led WLC at the plate by going 2-for-3. Freshman Hannah Jordan (Yorkville, Ill.) suffered the game two loss by giving up four earned runs over five innings.

  • Gina Followell improved to 4-2 in the circle after pitching a complete game and allowing just two hits while striking out 12. Sydney Erdmann went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Falcons in the opener.
  • Kelsey Bollon was 2-for-3 at the plate for CUW in game two, while Nicki Becker earned the win behind five innings pitched and four strikeouts.

  • The Warriors continue conference play on Saturday when they host 17th-ranked MSOE (16-1, 3-0 NACC) for a 12 p.m. doubleheader at Neumann Family Softball Field. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
