Cold Start Dooms WLC In Setback To St. Norbert

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Playing for the first time in 25 days, the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team couldn't overcome a cold-shooting first half, as the Warriors fell to NACC newcomer St. Norbert 79-67 on Wednesday night inside the Recreation Complex. The loss was the Warriors' first at home since February 27, 2020.

  • The Green Knights answered a Warriors three-pointer with an 8-0 run to take a 10-3 lead three minutes and 13 seconds into the game.
  • WLC trailed 10-5 before SNC rattled off a 17-3 scoring run to lead 27-8 with just over 10 minutes left in the opening half. 
  • Wisconsin Lutheran went into halftime facing a 38-19 deficit after being held to 17.2 percent shooting in the first half, compared to St. Norbert's 42.9 percent.
  • The Green Knights held a 22-point lead, their largest of the second half, with 11:34 left on the clock before the Warriors mounted a comeback. A 14-3 scoring run, capped by a three-point play from sophomore Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.), brought WLC to within 11 points at 59-48 with 7:49 remaining in the game.
  • Trailing by 14 points at the 3:34 mark, Wisconsin Lutheran closed to within five points thanks to a 9-0 scoring run that ended with a layup from sophomore Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.).
  • St. Norbert scored the next five points to seal the win over the Warriors by a final of 79-67.
  • WLC was held to a season-low 27.9 percent shooting, but did out-rebound the Green Knights 48-45.
  • Goetz paced three players in double figures with a team-high 18 points. Stoltz finished with 14 and senior Drew Bernhagen (Markesan, Wis.) added 12 points.
  • Junior Simeon Strauss (Chicago, Ill.) recorded team-highs of nine rebounds and five assists off the bench.
