WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College kept pace in a tight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference race with a 1-0 win over Concordia Chicago on Saturday at Warriors Soccer Field.
The Warriors (8-3-3, 5-2-2 NACC), who improved to 4-0 at home this season, scored in the 74th minute of the second half to break away from a scoreless match and hold off the Cougars (2-9-2, 1-6-2 NACC).
Junior
Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) made four first-half saves for WLC, which was out-shot 6-1 over the opening 45 minutes of play.Â
Wisconsin Lutheran had the better of play in the second half, edging CUC 5-4 in shots and holding them to just one on goal.
The Warriors broke the stalemate in the 74th minute when senior
Trevor Millonzi (Jackson, Wis.) put home senior
Jason Cano's (Delavan, Wis.) corner kick to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Millonzi's first goal of the season stood the rest of the way.Â
WLC, which played a man up over the final 15 minutes, nearly made it 2-0 when junior
Tony Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.) launched a ball well past the Concordia Chicago keeper who had snuck up the field, but the ball was saved off the line inches before rolling in the net.Â
Bedolla finished with three of Wisconsin Lutheran's six shots, while Galvan totaled five saves.
Four players had two shots each for the Cougars, who managed one save from goalkeeper Nicholas Pasut.
