Warriors Notch Key Road Win Over Rockford

WLC moves into three-way tie for second place

LOVES PARK, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College ran its unbeaten streak to four games following a big 3-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference road win over Rockford on Saturday at Wedgbury Stadium.

The Warriors (9-3-4, 6-2-3 NACC), who moved into a three-way tie for second place in the NACC with the victory, took a 1-0 lead over the Regents (4-9-4, 2-8-1 NACC) in the 19th minute on a penalty kick goal from senior Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.), his 14th goal of the year.

RU countered with a penalty kick goal of its own from Joshua De Avila four minutes later to even the match at 1-1.

Freshman Victor Moreno (Racine, Wis.) put WLC back in front 2-1 in the 36th minute with his second goal of the season, which proved to be the game-winner. Both teams tallied seven shots in an evenly-played first half.

Wisconsin Lutheran dictated the tempo in the second half, out-numbing Rockford 17-5 in shots, including 7-1 in shots on goal. Senior Joseph Raasch (Germantown, Wis.) provided a key insurance goal in the 81st minute, his sixth of the season, on an assist from freshman Owen Schneider (Waterford, Wis.).

Juniors Tony Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.) and Ben Meaux (Franklin, Wis.) led the Warriors with five shots apiece. Moreno and Raasch placed a team-high three shots of frame. Junior Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) faced 11 shots and made a pair of saves.

De Avila led the Regents with three shots and goalkeeper Ethan Wright made nine saves on 23 shots faced.

WLC hosts league-leading MSOE (12-1-3, 7-1-2 NACC) on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. Senior Night match featuring conference tournament implications. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
