Warriors Fall Short Against Spartans

Garcia scores first goal of the season

MONTGOMERY, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College came up on the short end of a 2-1 score against Aurora on Saturday at Spartan Athletic Park.

The Spartans (5-5-3, 4-4-0 NACC), who recorded 16 shots in the first half, struck for two goals in the opening 22 minutes to take the lead over the Warriors (4-9-0, 2-6-0 NACC).

AU's Sydney Kranick scored the first goal of the game in the 13th minute and teammate Abby Kay made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute. Both goals were assisted by Jessica Mirsky.

Sophomore Xiomara Garcia (Milwaukee, Wis.) put WLC on the board in the 55th minute of the second half with her first goal of the season off an assist from freshman Brooke Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.). Wisconsin Lutheran had additional scoring opportunities in the 63rd and 75th minutes, but both attempts were stopped by Aurora's goalkeeper Kelsey Deck.

Garcia, freshman Emilie Bartlett (Olathe, Kan.), and sophomore Jovanka Novakovich (Muskego, Wis.) each had a shot on goal for the Warriors. Junior Christian Casimir (Kaukauna, Wis.) made a season-high 15 saves in 90 minutes in net.

Mirsky registered nine of Aurora's 28 shots in the match, and Deck made a pair of saves.
