Men's Volleyball Ends Road Trip With Loss To Tigers

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's volleyball team capped a busy stretch of four matches in as many days on Monday night, falling to Wittenberg 3-0 inside Pam Evans Smith Arena.

• Final Score: Wittenberg 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-13)

• The Warriors held a pair of two-point leads early in the first set at 7-5 and 8-6. A five-point swing for the Tigers gave them a 13-9 lead, but WLC knotted the score for the seventh time in the set at 16-16 following a kill from freshman James Biedenbender (La Crosse, Wis.). Wittenberg responded with three straight and ended the set with four in a row to win the opening stanza 25-19.
• THe second set, which also featured seven ties and two lead changes, saw WLC leading 8-5 after consecutive service aces from sophomore Grant Wempner (Garden Grove, Calif.). Wisconsin Lutheran also led 10-7 before the Tigers went on a 7-2 run to take a two-point advantage. The Green and White again tied the set at 15-15, but the hosts scored five straight points and ended up winning set two 25-18.
• The Warriors trailed just 9-8 in the third set before Wittenberg rattled off nine points in a row to take command of the set. The Tigers took the third set to clinch the match 25-13.
• Junior Joe Flett (St. Anthony, Minn.) led WLC with six kills, while Biedenbender tallied 12 assists. Senior Logan Ascher (Waukesha, Wis.) totaled a team-high nine digs, with Wempner adding eight digs and a pair of service aces.
