Terrill's Complete Game Highlights WLC's Monday Sweep

CLERMONT, Fla. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team scored in each of the first five innings en route to an 8-4 victory over the University of New England in the opener of a doubleheader on Monday morning at The Spring Games at Hancock Park. In the late game, the Warriors used a four-run fifth inning to secure a 6-1 victory over Babson to extend their winning streak to five games.

  • The Nor'Easters took the early advantage with a two-out RBI double in the top of the first. The Warriors responded with the first four batters reaching base with an RBI single from sophomore Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) and a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Maddy Chestolowski (Appleton, Wis.) to retake a 2-1 lead.
  • UNE threatened in its half of the second inning by loading the bases with no outs, but junior Jena Almodovar (Romeoville, Ill.) escaped the jam with a double play and a groundout to maintain the 2-1 lead.
  • WLC added a pair of runs in the second inning when Martin hit her second home run of the season, a two-run shot plating senior Gracie Wilson (Deerfield, Wis.).
  • Wisconsin Lutheran plated two runs for the third consecutive inning when senior Aerin Moberg (Wheaton, Ill.) slapped a double down the left field line to score senior Katie Scott (Sallisaw, Okla.) and sophomore Bre Hoy (McHenry, Ill.) to push the lead to 6-1.
  • After the Green and White added a single tally in the fourth on a wild pitch, University of New England responded with a pair of runs to cut the Warriors' lead to 7-3. WLC got a run back in its half of the fifth inning with a Moberg squeeze bunt to plate Hoy.
  • The Nor'Easters added a run in the top of the sixth to trim the lead to 8-4 but sophomore Kacey Mietsner (Elwood, Ill.) stranded the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate on a strikeout.
  • Martin and Moberg collected three RBI each for Wisconsin Lutheran in the opener, while Martin, Wilson, and freshman Faith Ottens (Fulton, Ill.) each recorded multi-hit games.
  • Almodovar earned her second victory of the season in the circle, allowing four runs in 5.2 innings. Mietsner picked up her first save with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings.

  • The Beavers struck first in game two with a single tally in the first inning. The Green and White tied the game up in its next half inning when Hoy scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 until the Warriors capitalized on three Babson errors to plate four runs in the top of the fifth. Martin collected an RBI on a fielding error, while Almodovar singled to center field to plate Wilson. With two outs, freshman Makayla Huff (Galesburg, Ill.) singled to right field to plate Chestolowski and push the Warriors' advantage to 5-1.
  • After back-to-back innings of facing the minimum for freshman Callie Terrill (Minooka, Ill.) in the circle, WLC pushed an insurance run across the plate in the top of the seventh with an RBI single from freshman Taylor Peterson (Beloit, Wis.).
  • Wisconsin Lutheran had four different players collect an RBI in the game, with Martin and Huff each having two hits.
  • Terrill recorded her first win in her first career start, allowing just three hits and a walk in a complete game effort
