Warriors Drop Two Close Games To Cougars On Sunday

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team dropped a pair of close games in its return to the diamond for the first time in a week against Concordia Chicago on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars won the opener 3-0 and took the nightcap 6-4 at CUC Softball Field.

  • Both pitchers controlled the game early on as the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 through the first four innings.
  • The Cougars broke the scoreless draw in the fifth inning with a two-out, two-RBI single to center field with the bases loaded to take a 2-0 lead.
  • CUC added an insurance run in the sixth inning with an RBI single to left field to extend its lead to 3-0.
  • The Warriors recorded five hits from five different players but had just one runner reach scoring position in the contest.
  • Freshman Callie Terrill (Minooka, Ill.) suffered the loss in the circle but allowed just three runs over 5.1 innings of work.

  • The Cougars got on the scoreboard first in the nightcap with a pair of two-out runs in the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • The Warriors' offense broke through with a four-run third inning to take a 4-2 lead. After the first three batters reached base to load the bases, sophomore Briana Vilches (Fontana, Calif.) and freshman Olivia Krieser (Stoughton, Wis.) scored on a CUC error. Sophomore Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) added a RBI on a groundout to plate senior Aerin Moberg (Wheaton, Ill). Freshman Makayla Huff (Galesburg, Ill.) concluded the scoring with an RBI single to center field.
  • CUC cut WLC's lead to 4-3 with a solo home run to lead off their half of the third inning.
  • After stranding a pair of baserunners in the top half, the Cougars knotted the game at 4-4 with a two-out RBI double in the fifth inning.
  • Concordia Chicago took the late 6-4 lead on a two-run double to left field with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • Huff led Wisconsin Lutheran with two hits and a RBI in the nightcap. Martin and freshman Faith Ottens (Fulton, Ill.) each recorded a RBI for the Green and White.
