Wisconsin Lutheran Falls To BenU In NACC Road Series

LISLE, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Sophomore Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) recorded four hits for the Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team but the Warriors dropped a pair of NACC road games by scores of 10-2 and 8-1 against Benedictine on Saturday afternoon at the Benedictine Softball Field.

  • The Eagles quickly got on the scoreboard in the first inning with a two-out RBI single to center field to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • BenU capitalized on a Warriors error in the second inning to add a single tally with another two-out, run-scoring single to extend its lead to 2-0 through two innings.
  • Benedictine broke the game open in the third, scoring eight runs on six hits to push its lead to 10-0.
  • WLC got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in its half of the fourth. Following singles from freshman Taylor Peterson (Beloit, Wis.) and freshman Makayla Huff (Galesburg, Ill.) to start the inning, sophomore Addison Gelande (Port Byron, Ill.) lined a double to left field to score Peterson. With the bases loaded, freshman Cara Velez (Chicago, Ill.) singled to right field. The Eagles managed to escape the inning without allowing another run and leaving the bases loaded.
  • Martin led Wisconsin Lutheran's offense with a pair of hits, including a double, in the five-inning game. Five other players for the Green and White collected a hit in the contest.

  • The Eagles scored early in game two as the first three batters of the game reached base, capped off with a two-run double to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • After adding a single run in the second inning, BenU exploded for six hits and five runs in the third to extend its lead to 8-0.
  • In the fifth inning, senior Aerin Moberg (Wheaton, Ill.) and freshman Faith Ottens (Fulton, Ill.) singled to start the frame. Martin singled up the middle to plate Moberg and cut the deficit to 8-1.
  • Martin and Moberg paced WLC's offense with a pair of hits each.
  • Freshman Callie Terrill (Minooka, Ill.) tossed 3.1 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits.
