First-Place Falcons Top Warriors Before Weather Halts Play

Box Score

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Sophomore Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) went 2-for-2 with two RBI, but the Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team fell to 17th-ranked and NACC-leading Concordia Wisconsin 12-2 in six innings on Wednesday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader at Neumann Family Field. Game two was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the first inning with the Falcons leading the Warriors 1-0.

  • Final Score: No. 17 Concordia Wisconsin 12, Wisconsin Lutheran 2 (6 Inn.)
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (8-17, 1-12 NACC), Concordia Wisconsin (21-3, 9-2 NACC)
  • Location: Neumann Family Softball Field, Wauwatosa, Wis.

  • The Falcons quickly got on the scoreboard in the first inning with a five-hit, three-run inning to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Warriors responded with a one-out RBI double from Martin that scored senior Aerin Moberg (Wheaton, Ill.) for the Warriors' first run of the game in their half of the first.
  • CUW capitalized on a WLC error in the second inning to score two unearned runs for a four-run lead.
  • Concordia Wisconsin had another big inning in the third, scoring three runs on three hits to push its lead to 8-1.
  • Both teams went scoreless in the fourth inning before Wisconsin Lutheran tallied its second run an inning later.
  • Following singles from freshman Cara Velez (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore Bre Hoy (McHenry, Ill.) and a fielding error that got freshman Faith Ottens (Fulton, Ill.) on base, Martin drew a bases-loaded walk that plated freshman pinch runner Olivia Krieser (Stoughton, Wis.). The Falcons managed to escape the inning without allowing another run and leaving the bases loaded.
  • The Falcons plated four runs in the sixth off seven hits to make the final score 12-2.
  • Martin led Wisconsin Lutheran's offense with a pair of hits, including a double, and two RBI in the six-inning game. Four other players for the Green and White collected a hit in the contest.

  • The Warriors travel south of the border tomorrow for a non-conference doubleheader against Chicago (12-11). First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field. Live coverage links will be available for both games at WLCSports.com.
