WLC Drops Saturday Series At Aurora

MONTGOMERY, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team's offense was held scoreless in a pair of games on Saturday afternoon at Bedrosian Stadium. The host Aurora Spartans plated all three of their runs in the seventh inning of the opener to win 3-0 before exploding for a 10-0 win in five innings in the nightcap.

  • Final Scores: Aurora 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 0; Aurora 10, Wisconsin Lutheran 0 (5 Inn.)
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (8-21, 1-14 NACC), Aurora (25-5, 13-3 NACC);
  • Location: Bedrosian Stadium, Montgomery, Ill.
  • The Spartans threatened to score early in the first as they placed runners on the corners with just one out, but freshman Melissa Tonn (West Allis, Wis.) induced a lineout double play to keep them off the scoreboard.
  • AU started the third inning with a leadoff double to right center but Tonn recorded a strikeout and two flyouts to keep the game tied at 0-0.
  • In the top of the fourth, Aurora stranded a runner on third as Tonn got a groundout to shortstop to escape the jam. The Warriors threatened in the bottom half as freshman Makayla Huff (Galesburg, Ill.) singled down the left field line to start the inning but was stranded on second base.
  • The Spartans finally broke the pitcher's dual in the top of the seventh as they loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a hit by pitch before a two-run scoring single up the middle. AU added another run on a sacrifice fly to lead 3-0.
  • Sophomore Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) recorded a hit and a pair of walks while Huff added the other hit for WLC.
  • Tonn suffered the loss despite allowing just three runs in 6.0 innings in the circle.
  • The Spartans got on the scoreboard early in game two after a leadoff single and a pair of stolen bases put pressure on the Warriors before scoring a run on a one-out single up the middle.
  • AU added a single tally in each of the second and third innings to lead 3-0. WLC threatened in the bottom of the third as Martin doubled and reached third base with a walk by freshman Jackey Farias (San Diego, Calif.), but both runners were stranded on the corners.
  • A leadoff homerun in the fourth started a three-run rally where Aurora capitalized on a pair of errors to extend the lead to 6-0.
  • The Spartans' bats exploded for four runs on five hits in the fifth to push their lead to 10-0. In the bottom half, Wisconsin Lutheran left runners on second and third to conclude the game.
  • Martin and sophomore Addison Gelande (Port Byron, Ill.) each recorded a pair of hits for WLC in the nightcap. Huff and freshman Taylor Peterson (Beloit, Wis.) added a hit of their own.
  • The Warriors return to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to crosstown rival No. 19 MSOE (18-4, 11-3 NACC) for a NACC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at MSOE Athletic Field. Live coverage links will be available for both games at WLCSports.com.
