Wisconsin Lutheran Stymied By Stars On Sunday

ROSEMONT, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team wrapped up its first weekend of NACC play on Sunday, falling twice to Dominican at The Stadium at Parkway Bank Sports Complex. The Stars defeated the Warriors by scores of 8-3 and 9-1 in six innings. 

  • Final Scores: Dominican 8, Wisconsin Lutheran 3; Dominican 9, Wisconsin Lutheran 1 (6 Inn.)
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (8-8, 1-3 NACC), Dominican (19-1, 6-0 NACC)
  • Location: The Stadium at Parkway Bank Sports Complex, Rosemont, Ill.

  • After a scoreless first inning, the Stars scored five unearned runs off of four hits and an error to take a 5-0 lead through two innings. 
  • The Warriors cracked the scoring column with three runs in the fourth inning. Following leadoff hits from sophomore Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) and freshman Taylor Peterson (Beloit, Wis.), senior Katie Scott (Sallisaw, Okla.) drove in Martin on a foul out to second base. Peterson came around to score when freshman Makayla Huff (Galesburg, Ill.) reached on an error, and Huff crossed home plate when sophomore Briana Vilches (Fontana, Calif.) grounded out to second to make the score 5-3.
  • After stranding the bases loaded in the fifth, DU scored its final three runs in the sixth off a three-run home run.
  • WLC finished with five hits in the opener, with Huff leading the way with two hits, while senior Gracie Wilson (Deerfield, Wis.), Martin, and Peterson each added a hit. Scott and Vilches drove in a run each. Martin, Peterson, and Huff each scored runs.

  • Wisconsin Lutheran left the bases loaded in its half of the first before Dominican used a six-run, six-hit first inning to take an early 6-0 lead.
  • The Stars went on to score a run in both the second and third innings to send their lead to eight runs.
  • The Green and White plated their only run of the game in the fourth inning when sophomore Bri Biermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) doubled home Scott.
  • DU scored one last time in the bottom of the sixth making the final score 9-1.
  • The Warriors finished with three hits in the second game, with two from Biermann and one from Scott.

  • The Warriors are next scheduled to host Lakeland (7-4, 2-0 NACC) on Tuesday in a 3 p.m. NACC doubleheader at Neumann Family Softball Field. Live coverage links will be available for both games at WLCSports.com.
