Zarling Earns Medalist; Men's Golf Grabs Runner-Up Finish At Scot Invite

MONMOUTH, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Senior Solomon Zarling (West Bend, Wis.) won his first tournament of the year to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's golf team to a runner-up finish on Sunday at the Monmouth Scot Invite. Zarling won the tournament by one stroke and the Warriors shot a 302 as a team to claim second place.

  • Tournament: Monmouth Scot Invite
  • Location: Gibson Woods Golf Course, Monmouth, Ill.
  • Course Info: Par 71, 6,300 Yards
  • WLC Team: 2nd of 6 (+18)
  • Top WLC Individual: Solomon Zarling (-1), 1st of 39

  • Zarling earned medalist honors after draining a birdie putt on his final hole to finish the single-day tournament at one-under 70. It marked his first tournament win of 2021-2022.
  • Freshman Kale Gnewikow (Warrens, Wis.) carded a season-low 74 to finish tied for fifth, while fellow freshman Luke Movrich (Appleton, Wis.) tied for seventh with a 75, also a season-low.
  • Junior Theo Schmenk (River Falls, Wis.) registered a 79 and junior Hans Schultz (Ladysmith, Wis.) turned in an 81 playing as individuals.
  • Seniors Trey Gnewikow (Warrens, Wis.) and James Michaelson (Crystal Lake, Ill.) finished with scores of 83 and 88, respectively, to account for the team score for WLC.

  • "It was good to see some lower scores today from guys throughout the lineup and for Solomon to close his round with a birdie to secure the individual win was icing on the cake! We're incredibly blessed with an amazing indoor facility on campus and despite the brutal spring weather we've had some guys putting in the extra time to improve indoors and they saw that hard work payoff with lower scores on the course." - Head coach Adam Volbrecht

  • The Warriors will next compete at the Viking Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois. First round tee time is slated for 12 p.m. on Friday.
