Softball Secures Senior Day Shutout Of Inferno

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Sophomore Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) hit her eighth and ninth homeruns of the season to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team to a 12-0 win in five innings in game one of its Senior Day NACC doubleheader against Alverno on Sunday at Neumann Family Field. The second game of the twinbill was deemed a no contest.

  • The Warriors grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Martin drove her eighth homerun of the season over the right field fence that brought home senior Gracie Wilson (Deerfield, Wis.), who leadoff the game with a double.
  • WLC scored a pair of unearned runs in the second inning when freshman pinch runner Bella Simmons (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored on a throwing error by the pitcher. Senior Aerin Moberg (Wheaton, Ill.), who singled in the inning, came around to score the fourth run on another throwing error by the pitcher.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran broke the game open with seven runs all after two outs in the third inning. Sophomore Bre Hoy (McHenry, Ill.) singled home freshman Olivia Krieser (Stoughton, Wis.). Moberg cleared the bases with a three-RBI double that plated freshman Maddie Votsis (Milwaukee, Wis.), Simmons, and Hoy. Martin belted her second homerun of the game, a three-run shot, that scored Wilson and Moberg for an 11-0 lead.
  • The Green and White added its final run of the game in the fourth when a Simmons sac fly brought home senior Katie Scott (Sallisaw, Okla.), who singled to start the frame.
  • Martin finished 2-for-3 with five RBI and two runs scored. Moberg went 2-of-2 with three RBI and two runs. Wilson and Simmons also crossed home plate twice.
  • Freshman Melissa Tonn (West Allis, Wis.) tossed four shutout innings, scattering three hits and striking out four.

  • The Warriors are next scheduled to host Marian (15-18, 10-12 NACC) on Tuesday in a NACC doubleheader at Neumann Family Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live coverage links will be available for both games at WLCSports.com.
