WATERTOWN, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College picked up its second win of the season on Saturday after scoring 11 times in an 11-1 non-conference win over Maranatha Baptist at MBU Soccer Field.
The Warriors (2-3-0) scored five first-half goals and added another six in the second half to eclipse double-digit goals for the second time in their last three games. They were credited for a school-record 57 shots in the win.
Senior
Elena Velasquez (Milwaukee, Wis.) started the scoring for WLC in the 17th minute on assist from freshman
Brooke Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.). Freshman
Emilie Bartlett (Olathe, Kan.) broke a 1-1 tie in the 19th minute for the eventual game-winning goal. Sophomore
Jovanka Novakovich (Muskego, Wis.) scored her first of three goals in the 23rd minute assisted again by Bluhm. Both Velasquez and Bluhm added unassisted goals in the 37th and 45th minute for a 5-1 halftime lead.
Bartlett netted the first two goals of the second half for Wisconsin Lutheran in the 45th and 50th minute for a hat trick. Novakovich added consecutive scores in the 72nd and 82nd minutes also for a hat trick, and freshman
Lydia Drake (Neenah, Wis.) capped the scoring in the 85th and 90th minute with a brace of her own.
The Warriors out-shot the Sabercats 57-5, and were led by 15 shots from Bartlett and 12 from Drake. WLC had five different players score and assist on goals in the game. Junior
Christian Casimir (Kaukauna, Wis.) made a save and surrendered a goal in all 90 minutes in action.
