FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College came up short in a back-and-forth battle with Marian, 4-3, on Wednesday in the NACC opener at Smith Field.
The Warriors opened the scoring in just the third minute of the match on a goal by freshman
Brooke Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.). WLC held a 1-0 lead until the 20th minute when the Sabres' Ashley Welk tied the contest at 1-1. Freshman
Emilie Bartlett (Olathe, Kan.) found the back of the net in the 30th minute to give Wisconsin Lutheran (2-4-0, 0-1-0 NACC) a 2-1 lead at halftime.Â
Marian (2-2-1, 1-0-0 NACC) came out of the intermission hot, as Welk picked up two more goals in the 47th and 48th minute to swing the score back in favor of the Sabres at 3-2. Allison Schnell added to the MU lead when she scored in the 62nd minute. The scoring was capped by Bluhm with her second goal of the night and seventh of the season in the 82nd minute assisted by Bartlett and junior
Chloe Premo (Wrightwood, Calif.), making the final score 4-3 in Marian's favor.
The Sabres out-shot the Warriors 24-11 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
