Late Surge Lifts Men's Soccer To Fifth Win

Four players score as WLC improves to 5-1-0

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College broke away from a 1-1 tie by scoring three goals within a five-minute span late in the second half for a 4-1 win over Illinois Tech on Homecoming Saturday at Warriors Soccer Field.

The Warriors (5-1-0, 2-0-0 NACC) scored first for the sixth straight game when senior KJ McNealey Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis.) put the hosts ahead 1-0 in the sixth minute on an assist from senior Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.). It was McNealey's fifth goal of the season.

The Scarlet Hawks (4-2-0, 0-2-0 NACC) evened the match at 1-1 in the 22nd minute on a goal from Zahed Al-Hajji assisted by Josh Plimpton. The score remained 1-1 until halftime, as WLC narrowly out-shot IIT 5-3.

Wisconsin Lutheran, which held Illinois Tech without a shot on goal in the second half, broke the 1-1 deadlock in the 81st minute on senior Joseph Raasch's (Germantown, Wis.) fourth goal of the season, assisted for the sixth time this year by Cano.

Cano made it a two-goal margin in the 85th minute on his seventh of the year, and freshman Victor Moreno (Racine, Wis.) added insurance in the 86th minute with his first strike of the season, assisted by junior Tony Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.).

The Warriors out-shot the Scarlet Hawks 11-7 and held a 6-2 edge on corner kicks. Both teams committed 18 fouls. Cano and Raasch led WLC with three shots apiece.

Junior Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) didn't have to make a save in the second half, picking up the victory in 45 minutes of action.

Wisconsin Lutheran travels to face NACC foe Concordia Wisconsin (4-0-2, 1-0-1 NACC) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Fitting Field in Mequon. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
