WLC Blasts Blue Angels With 12-Goal Barrage

Warriors match single game record for goals

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College tied a program record with 12 goals in a non-conference shutout win over Mount Mary on Tuesday at MMU Soccer Field. The dozen goals scored matches a record originally set in 1999 when the Warriors also piled up 12 goals against the Blue Angels.

WLC (1-2-0) started the scoring early in the fourth minute on an unassisted goal from freshman Lydia Drake (Neenah, Wis.). She was the first of six different players who accounted for Wisconsin Lutheran's seven first-half goals. Freshman Brooke Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.) netted her first of four goals in the game in the sixth minute on an assist from sophomore Jovanka Novakovich (Muskego, Wis.). Junior Signe Kind (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) joined the scoring parade in the 11th minute on an assist from Bluhm.

Freshmen Emilie Bartlett (Olathe, Kan.) and Elizabeth Rutschow (Cottonwood, Ariz.) traded places in the 32nd and 37th minutes as the duo tallied assists on each other's goals. Senior Elena Velasquez (Milwaukee, Wis.) closed the first-half scoring in the 39th minute on an assist from sophomore Emily Meiller (Madison, Wis.).

Bluhm tallied the first two unassisted goals of the second half for Wisconsin Lutheran in the 49th and 54th minutes. Drake followed with back-to-back netters 56th and 70th minutes, assisted by Velasquez and Kind. Sophomore Margarita Hernandez (Carpentersville, Ill.) capped the scoring in the 85th minute with an assist from junior Peyton Killberg (Racine, Wis.).

The Warriors racked up 38 shots in the contest, compared to just one for Mount Mary (0-3-0). Bartlett led the team with nine shots, while Bluhm and Drake had four and three goals, respectively.

WLC travels to Carroll (1-0-0) on Thursday for a 7 p.m. non-conference game at Schneider Stadium. Live coverage links will be available for the match at WLCSports.com.
