ALBANY, N.Y. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College collected its first sweep in program history on Friday, defeating Russell Sage 3-0 in a non-conference match at the Kahl Campus Center.
The Warriors (2-0), who swept the Gators (1-2) by scores of 25-17, 26-24, 25-21, overcame deficits of three and six points over the first two sets to secure its first three-set victory in the brief history of the program. WLC trailed RSC just once (1-0) in the third set before turning the tables and leading by as many as five points.Â
Wisconsin Lutheran hit a program-best .295 for the match with 35 kills, 12 errors, and 78 total attempts. The Warriors posted a match-high 18 kills in the second set alone while hitting .382.Â
Freshman
Drew Wempner (West Allis, Wis.) recorded a match-high 10 kills behind an impressive .364 hitting percentage. He also added three total blocks and two service aces for WLC. Freshman
Martell Hines Jr. (Chicago Heights, Ill.) followed with eight kills and four digs. Sophomore
Jay Thammavongsa (Franklin, Wis.) registered a career-high 26 of the team's 34 assists. Freshman
Trevor Salutric (Lockport, Ill.) led Wisconsin Lutheran with six digs.
Ryan Jennings had 15 assists and Jack McWilliam added 12 digs for Russell Sage, which hit .053 for the match on 18 kills, 15 errors, and 57 total attacks.
