DE PERE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College held a late lead in both the second and third set on Friday, but couldn't close out Olivet in a 3-0 non-conference loss at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center.
The Warriors (2-2) dropped the three-set match to the Comets (1-1) by scores of 25-19, 28-26, 25-23. WLC overcame a seven-point deficit (13-6) in the second set, leading 21-16 and again 24-21 before OC rallied late for the win. In the third set, Wisconsin Lutheran trailed 8-4 before battling back for a 21-17 lead but Olivet closed out the match with an 8-2 scoring run.
The Warriors hit .165 for the match with 33 kills, 17 errors, and 97 attempts. Freshman
Drew Wempner (West Allis, Wis.) posted a match-high 10 kills to lead WLC. Junior
Grant Wempner (Garden Grove, Calif.) hit a match-best .364. Sophomores
Jay Thammavongsa (Franklin, Wis.) and
James Biedenbender (La Crosse, Wis.) tallied 17 and 11 assists, respectively. Biedenbender also led the team with seven digs.
The Comets hit .155 for the match on 34 kills, 19 errors, and 97 attacks. Everett Haynes collected 26 kills and 12 digs to lead OC.
Wisconsin Lutheran travels to Rockford, Illinois tomorrow for a non-conference triangular against the host Regents (1-2) and Trinity International (0-1) at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. Live coverage links will be available for both contests at WLCSports.com.
