Ben Meaux (Franklin, Wis.) broke a scoreless match with the game-winning goal in the 86th minute to lead Wisconsin Lutheran College to a 1-0 win over St. Norbert on Wednesday at Warriors Soccer Field.
The Warriors (8-3-2, 6-2-0 NACC), who ran their home unbeaten streak to 14 games, knocked off the Green Knights (6-5-2, 5-2-1 NACC) for the first time in six all-time meetings to leapfrog them in the conference standings.
SNC narrowly outshot WLC 5-4 in the opening half, as both teams tallied one shot on frame and the contest stayed scoreless. Wisconsin Lutheran controlled the pace of play in the second half, outshooting St. Norbert 9-3.
In the 86th minute, Meaux took a pass on the left wing from senior
Tony Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.) and placed a shot past the outstretched arms of the Green Knights keeper into the bottom right corner for his third goal of the year.Â
The Warriors' defense held up, as they didn't allow a shot over the final four minutes despite SNC bringing their goalkeeper forward.
WLC outshot SNC 13-8 and was even 7-7 in corner kicks. Bedolla tallied four shots to lead Wisconsin Lutheran, which pitched its eighth shutout of the season. Senior
