MONTGOMERY, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College came up short in a 1-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match to league co-leader Aurora on Wednesday at Spartan Athletic Park.
The Warriors (8-5-2, 6-4-0 NACC), who clinched a spot in the eight-team NACC Tournament despite the loss to the Spartans (11-3-3, 8-0-2 NACC), dropped consecutive games for the first time this season.
Both goalkeepers made a pair of saves for their respective sides within the first 22 minutes of the match. AU netted what proved to be the game's lone goal in the 25th minute from Ben Gamino assisted by Anthony Marmolejo. WLC trailed 1-0 at halftime despite outshooting Aurora 6-4, including 4-3 in shots on goal.
The two sides tallied two shots each on frame in the second half. Following a handball in the box in the 81st minute, senior
Tony Bedolla's (Joliet, Ill.) potential game-tying penalty kick was stopped by a diving Spartans goalkeeper Jalen Depenbrock.
Wisconsin Lutheran outshot AU 10-6 and held a 5-2 edge on corner kicks. Bedolla led the Warriors with four shots, including three on target. Senior
Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) made four saves.
