Penalty Kick Holds Up In Warriors' 1-0 Loss At Lakeland

WLC outshoots Lakeland 20-10

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College doubled up Lakeland in the shot count, but a 59th minute penalty kick stood up in a Muskies 1-0 win over the Warriors on Wednesday at Taylor Field.

WLC (6-4-1, 3-4-0 NACC), which owned a 20-10 cushion in shots and a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal over LU (5-8-0, 1-6-0 NACC), was unable to find the back of the net for the second straight game.

Senior Katie Wasiak (Muskego, Wis.) put the only two shots on frame from either team in the first half, but both were turned away by Lakeland goalkeeper Faith Turley. Wisconsin Lutheran outshot the Muskies 11-2 in the first half, but the contest remained scoreless through halftime.

The Warriors tallied three of their five second-half shots on goal over the first 13 minutes. The Muskies' Mikayla Belasco capitalized on a foul inside the box by connecting on a penalty kick in the 59th minute for a 1-0 lead. WLC's final two shots on frame came in the 63rd and 64th minute, but it was unable to connect on the equalizer.

Wasiak recorded a match-high 10 shots for Wisconsin Lutheran, which doubled up LU in shots (20-10) and corner kicks (12-6). Senior Christian Casimir (Kaukauna, Wis.) made a pair of second-half saves for the Warriors.

WLC returns home on Saturday to host Benedictine (4-6-2, 4-3-0 NACC) for Senior Day at 1 p.m. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
