UWSP Edges WLC, 5-4, In Spring Home Opener

Kannenberg collects two wins for Warriors

JACKSON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College was edged by UW-Stevens Point 5-4 on Friday in a non-conference match at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club.

The Warriors (0-7) and Pointers (2-7) squared off for the first time ever in the home spring season opener for WLC. UWSP took two of the three doubles matches at No. 1 (8-7 (7-3)) and No. 3 (8-3) in between junior Jon Kannenberg's (Butler, Wis.) and freshman Zadic Torline's (Shawnee, Kan.) 8-7 (7-3) win at No. 2. 

Stevens Point picked up three singles victories, including two via tiebreak, at No. 1 (6-2, 6-3), No. 2 (6-2, 7-6 (7-2), and No. 6 (6-3, 7-6 (7-5). Wisconsin Lutheran kept things close with wins at the remaining singles spots. Kannenberg won in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 3, Torline triumphed at No. 4 by scores of 6-3, 6-1, and senior Josh Hennen (Slinger, Wis.) was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 5. 

The Warriors continue their non-conference schedule next Thursday, February 16 when they host Calvin (1-0) at 12:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club in Jackson.
