Warriors' Offense Silenced By Lumberjacks

Danko fans career-high 11 in game one start

MEQUON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College managed just five hits in a non-conference doubleheader sweep to Northland on Friday at Kapco Park. The Lumberjacks defeated the Warriors by scores of 2-0 and 4-2 in a pair of seven-inning contests.

Sophomore right-hander Tyler Danko (Milwaukee, Wis.) didn't allow a hit through the first four innings of the opener, as he worked around a pair of walks in the top of the fourth to keep the contest scoreless for WLC (1-8).

NC (3-7) scratched across two runs in the fifth inning on four hits, but left two runners stranded and had a potential third run thrown out at the plate. Wisconsin Lutheran's lone hit in the game came on a one-out double from senior Danny Cain (Jackson, Wis.) in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Danko struck out a career-high 11 batters over 7.0 innings, allowing five hits and two runs.

The Warriors took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two. Senior Ryan Dominick's (Bartlett, Ill.) RBI groundout plated sophomore Elijah Shevey (Muskego, Wis.), who leadoff the game with a double to left field.

Junior Henry Strupp's (Watertown, Wis.) one-out, solo home run to left field in the third inning put WLC ahead 2-0.

After stranding runners on base in each of the first three frames, Northland scored its first run in the fourth on a one-out double to left field. The Lumberjacks capitalized on three walks in the fifth inning with a two-out, three-run double to right center for a 4-2 lead.

Wisconsin Lutheran threatened in its half of the fifth with two runners on and one out, but couldn't plate a run across.

Shevey led the Warriors with two hits in the nightcap. Junior Andrew Muffler (Waukesha, Wis.) struck out seven but suffered the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings.

WLC travels to Waukesha on Tuesday for a single non-conference contest against Carroll (5-7). First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Frame Park. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
