JACKSON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College improved to 3-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with a 9-0 sweep over Marian on Sunday at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club.
The Warriors (6-9, 3-0 NACC), who are off to their first 3-0 start in conference play since 2013, won their third straight match over the Sabres (0-4, 0-3 NACC).Â
WLC coasted through doubles play, surrendering just one games to MU. Sophomores
Aidan Newberg (Manitowoc, Wis.) and
Asa White (Farmington, N.M.) blanked their opponents at No. 1, 8-0. Junior
Jon Kannenberg (Butler, Wis.) and freshman
Zadic Torline (Shawnee, Kan.) also shutout their counterparts at No. 2, 8-0. Senior
Josh Hennen (Slinger, Wis.) and freshman
Connor Heezen (Pulaski, Wis.) teamed for an 8-1 victory at No. 3.
Wisconsin Lutheran had little trouble with Marian in singles play, winning in straight sets, including a trio of clean sweeps. Newberg (6-0, 6-0), White (6-0, 6-2), Kannenberg (6-0, 6-0), Torline (6-0, 6-2), junior
Bryce Halvorsen (Kewaskum, Wis.) (6-0, 6-0), and Hennen (6-0, 6-1) were each victorious at No. 1 through No. 6, respectively.
The Warriors host Lakeland (0-4, 0-4 NACC) next Saturday, April 1 at 5 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club in Jackson.
