MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College wrapped up its 2023 home schedule on Wednesday, falling 3-0 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match to Edgewood at the Time of Grace Center.
The Warriors (4-19, 0-9 NACC), who honored their only senior
Matthew Miskowski (La Crosse, Wis.) during a prematch ceremony, were downed by the Eagles (7-16, 3-6 NACC) in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-19.
EC broke a 16-16 tie in the first set, which featured 14 ties and eight lead changes, with a 5-0 scoring run to take the lead for good. WLC jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the second set, before Edgewood came back to take its first lead at 11-10 and never trailed again, A back-and-forth third set featured 10 ties and four lead changes, as Wisconsin Lutheran held a slim 16-15 lead past the midway point. The Eagles answered with a 5-2 scoring spurt to put them in front for good.
Freshman
Drew Wempner (West Allis, Wis.) led the Warriors with a match-high 10 kills. He also posted three blocks assists. Junior
Grant Wempner (Garden Grove, Calif.) tied a season-high with four service aces. Sophomore
Jay Thammavongsa (Franklin, Wis.) dished out a team-high 19 assists. Sophomore
James Biedenbender (La Crosse, Wis.) tallied a team-best eight digs along with seven kills. WLC finished with 22 kills, 23 errors, and 96 attempts for a -.010 hitting percentage.
Gavin Patterson and Jake Chapman collected nine kills apiece for EC, which hit .162 with 40 kills, 23 errors, 105 attempts.
Wisconsin Lutheran plays its final three matches of the season on the road, starting Saturday with a 1 p.m. NACC match at Concordia Wisconsin (12-8, 5-2 NACC) in Mequon. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
