KENOSHA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College combined to score 25 runs in a non-conference sweep over Carthage on Wednesday at Dr. James L. Santarelli Sports Complex. The Warriors defeated the Firebirds by scores of 13-3 and 12-3 in a pair of five-inning contests.
WLC (8-12), which has scored at least 10 runs in three consecutive games for the first time since 2003, earned its first-ever sweep of CC (8-15) in the 12-game series history.

Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.) singled home junior
Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.), Martin stole home, and Corley came across on a passed ball. Martin made it 4-0 in the second inning with a two-out double that sent home sophomore

Carthage plated its first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the second inning, but the Warriors answered right back with an eight-run frame in the third. Juniors
Addison Gelande (Port Byron, Ill.) and
Briana Vilches (Fontana, Calif.) collected RBI singles, Martin drew a bases loaded walk, sophomore
Gwen Malecke (Gilberts, Ill.) smashed a grand slam, and Corley went back-to-back with a solo blast for a 12-1 lead.
Corley collected her third hit and third RBI of the game in the fifth inning with a run-scoring single for a 13-1 advantage. The Firebirds pushed across their final two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
WLC was led at the plate by Corley, who finished 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs. Martin also recorded three hits, two RBI, and two runs. Vilches posted a pair of hits, and Malecke drove in four runs with her first career home run. Sophomore
Callie Terrill (Minooka, Ill.) registered her second win of the season after giving up just one run on five hits over 4.0 innings.
Wisconsin Lutheran started game two right where it left off, scoring seven runs on four hits in the top of the first inning. Martin homered for the fifth time this season, sophomore
Taylor Peterson (Beloit, Wis.) cracked a two-run single and later scored on passed ball, and freshman
Emily Cardenas (Lake Stevens, Wash.) cleared the bases with a three-RBI single.

Makayla Huff (Galesburg, Ill.) made it 9-0 in the second inning when Malecke and Peterson scored on her single. WLC added its final three runs in the third inning on a two-run double by Malecke, who later came around to score on a wild pitch. CC plated all three of its runs on a pair of two-out hits in the last of the fifth inning.
Martin paced the offense in game two with two hits, two runs, and a RBI. Six other players posted one hit each. Cardenas collected three RBI, while Malecke and Peterson had two apiece. Junior
Kacey Mietsner (Elwood, Ill.) won her first game of the season in the circle after tossing 3.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
