Wisconsin Lutheran Stymied By Sabres

Cardenas leads WLC with three hits

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College was shutout in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Marian on Friday. The Sabres defeated the Warriors by scores of 8-0 and 2-0 at Smith Field.

After a scoreless inning-and-a-half, MU scored six runs on five hits in its half of the second for the early cushion. WLC left a pair of runners stranded on base in both the fourth and fifth innings. Marian ended the game in the fifth with two runs on four hits for the eight-run advantage.

Freshman Emily Cardenas (Lake Stevens, Wash.) went 2-for-3 to lead Wisconsin Lutheran, while sophomore Makayla Huff (Galesburg, Ill.) accounted for the team's other hit in the opener.

The Sabres scored an unearned run in the first inning of game two for the early advantage. MU manufactured a third-inning run with a sacrifice fly for a two-run lead.

The Warriors placed a pair of runners in scoring position in the fifth, but they were left stranded as the final out was recorded.

In the seventh, sophomore Olivia Krieser (Stoughton, Wis.) leadoff with a single, but was retired on a double-play lineout the next at-bat to end any scoring threat.

Junior Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.) led WLC with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Four other players added a hit each.

Wisconsin Lutheran travels to Alverno (4-25, 1-16 NACC) on Sunday for a 12 p.m. NACC doubleheader. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
