WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference games to Edgewood in its home opener on Saturday at Neumann Family Field. The Warriors fell to the Eagles by scores of 19-1 in eight innings in game one and 9-5 in game two.
EC (11-7, 4-2 NACC) scored runs in each of the first five innings of game one to take command early. Freshman
Lucas Oswald (Muskego, Wis.) collected WLC's (2-15, 1-5 NACC) first hit of the game, a one-out double to right center in the bottom of the third inning. Trailing 7-0 in the fourth, senior
Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left center, to put Wisconsin Lutheran on the board.Â
Edgewood opened the floodgates in the eighth inning with 10 runs on six hits, and the contest was complete after eight innings.
Oswald led Wisconsin Lutheran with two hits in the opener, while Dominick, junior
Foster Engelhardt (North Richland Hills, Texas), senior
Carter Raabe (Mukwonago, Wis.), and freshman
Tim Frerking (Oconomowoc, Wis.) added a hit each.
The Warriors quickly erased a first-inning run by the Eagles in game two with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first. A RBI single to left from Engelhardt, sacrifice fly to right from Raabe, and a RBI single up the middle from sophomore
Tyler Danko (Milwaukee, Wis.) gave WLC a 3-1 lead after one.
EC plated a run in the second on a RBI single, but Wisconsin Lutheran got that run back in its half of the inning on a sacrifice fly to center from sophomore
Elijah Shevey (Muskego, Wis.) that scored junior
Jake Sillan (Castle Rock, Colo,).
A wild pitch put Edgewood within a run in the third inning, but the Warriors answered once again the following frame with a two-out single to left from Engelhardt that brought home Dominick.
The Eagles evened the game at 5-5 with two runs on three hits in the sixth inning. Neither team threatened in the seventh or eighth, before EC plated four runs off four hits in the top of the ninth for the 9-5 result.
Engelhardt paced WLC with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Danko, Dominick, and Sillan added two hits each.
Wisconsin Lutheran begins a stretch of eight straight road games on Monday with a NACC doubleheader at Concordia Chicago (9-11, 2-4 NACC). First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Cougar Field in River Forest, Illinois. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
