RIPON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) -Â Wisconsin Lutheran College began its 2023 season with a 2-0 non-conference shutout win over Ripon on Friday at Prairie Field. The win was the first collegiate victory for first-year head coach
Matt Eisold.
The Warriors (1-0-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute after sophomore
Brooke Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.) scored the first goal of the season. Junior
Adlin Sanchez Cordero (Milwaukee, Wis.) assisted on the score. WLC maintained its one-goal lead through the first half as it out-shot the Red Hawks (0-0-1) 9-5.
Five minutes into the second half, Sanchez Cordero gave Wisconsin Lutheran a 2-0 advantage when she found the back of the net unassisted. The Warriors controlled the second half, tallying 10 shots to just two for Ripon.
Bluhm and junior
Ella Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo.) collected five shots apiece to lead WLC, which finished with 19 for the game. Senior
Christian Casimir (Kaukauna, Wis.) stopped five shots to preserve the shutout.
