Men's Soccer Secures NACC-Opening Win Over Marian

Cervantes nets game-winner in the 52nd minute

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College held on for a 1-0 win over Marian in its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener on Wednesday at Smith Field.

The Warriors (2-1-2, 1-0-0 NACC), who won their conference opener for the fourth straight season, defeated the Sabres (2-2-0, 0-1-0 NACC) for the third straight time in the series.

WLC, which didn't allow a first-half shot by MU, tallied five shots in the opening stanza, including four on goal. The contest, however, remained scoreless through halftime.

After a pair of Wisconsin Lutheran shots on frame were turned away in the first three minutes of the second half, freshman Hector Cervantes (Milwaukee, Wis.) broke through in the 52nd minute for his first career goal.

Senior Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) made his only two saves of the match in the 53rd and 74th minutes to preserve the third shutout of the season.

Senior Titus Kostrzewa (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and freshman Aydan Scortino (Pewaukee, Wis.) tallied four shots apiece for the Warriors, who out-shot Marian 14-4.

WLC wraps up its four-game road trip on Saturday when it travels to Loves Park, Illinois for a NACC matchup against Rockford (2-4-0, 1-0-0 NACC). Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
