Marian Clips Wisconsin Lutheran In NACC Opener

WLC suffers first loss of the season

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College was edged 1-0 by Marian on Wednesday in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener for both teams at Warriors Soccer Field.

The Warriors (3-1-1, 0-1-0 NACC), who suffered their first loss of the season, allowed a late first-half goal to the Sabres (2-1-2, 1-0-0 NACC) which proved to be the difference in the match.

WLC placed a pair of shots on frame in the first half, but both were turned away. Freshman goalkeeper Kallista Street (Kenosha, Wis.) made eight saves through the first 41 minutes of the opening stanza as the contest remained scoreless. In the 42nd minute, MU's Emily Gordillo launched a long shot that sailed into the top left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin Lutheran, which totaled seven second-half shot attempts, had four chances on goal over the final 10 minutes of the contest. Street saved eight more shots over the final 45 minutes to keep the game at the one-goal margin.

Senior Elena Velasquez (Milwaukee, Wis.) tallied four of the Warriors' 10 shots in the game. Street made a season-high 16 saves in her second career start.

WLC travels to Loves Park, Illinois on Saturday for its first NACC road game of the season against Rockford (3-2-0, 0-1-0 NACC) at 1 p.m. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
