RIPON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College opened play at the Red Hawks Invitational with a pair of wins over Maranatha Baptist and Nebraska Wesleyan on Friday at the Doc Weiske Memorial Gymnasium.
The Warriors (4-6) swept the Sabercats (4-3) in their first match by scores of 25-19, 25-20, 25-19. WLC, which has won three straight matches, hit .236 with 43 kills, 18 errors, and 106 attempts.Â
Sophomores
Kayla Wigley (Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Lily Schuetz (Lake Mills, Wis.) paced Wisconsin Lutheran with 11 kills apiece, with Schuetz eclipsing a career high. Junior
Emma Incaprero (Mauston, Wis.) collected a season-high 20 assists and racked up a career-high six service aces. Junior
Karah Valerio (Pewaukee, Wis.) tallied 15 assists.
Sophomore
Bailey Halliburton (Germantown, Wis.) totaled a career-high five blocks and junior
Kylee Gnabasik (Jefferson, Wis.) registered 17 digs.
The Warriors came from behind to defeat the Prairie Wolves (5-5) in their second match by scores of 24-26, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20. WLC tied a season-high with 53 kills while hitting .166 for the match on 27 errors and 157 attempts.
Wigley led three players in double-digit kills with 12. Junior
Grace Frey (South Milwaukee, Wis.), who tied a career high, and Schuetz chipped in with 10 kills each. Valerio reached a career-high 30 assists, while Incaprero added 16 assists. Gnabasik amassed a career-high 29 digs and served up five aces.Â
Halliburton notched another five block assists and Frey finished with four total blocks. Incaprero and Wigley tallied 13 and 11 digs, respectively, to finish with double-doubles.
