Katie Wasiak (Muskego, Wis.) and sophomore
Brooke Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.) played a role in both goals to lead Wisconsin Lutheran College to a 2-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Concordia Chicago on Saturday at Warriors Soccer Field.
The Warriors (5-2-1, 2-2-0 NACC), who defeated the Cougars (2-6-1, 2-2-0 NACC) for the first time since 2008, have avoided consecutive losses through eight games this season.
WLC peppered CUC's goalkeeper with six shots on goal through the first 20 minutes of play, but to no avail. In the 21st minute, however, Wisconsin Lutheran's seventh shot on frame was successful. Bluhm netted her 11th goal of the season into upper left corner off an assist from Wasiak for a 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the hosts until intermission.
The Warriors maintained their offensive pressure in the second half, placing seven shots on frame through the first 29 minutes of action. Concordia Chicago, however, knotted the score at 1-1 in the 75th minute on a goal from Jamie Seibert.Â
Seven minutes later, Bluhm made a run down the right side and her cross in front of the net found a waiting Wasiak who punched it into the back of the net for her third goal of the year. The Cougars had one shot on frame over the final eight minutes, but it was saved by freshman goalkeeper
Kallista Street (Kenosha, Wis.).
Bluhm and junior
Ella Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo.) collected six shots each to lead the Warriors, who out-shot CUC 25-13. Street stopped six shots to pickup her third win of the season in the net.
WLC starts a three-game road trip on Wednesday when it travels to Alverno (0-6, 0-4 NACC) for a 4 p.m. kickoff. Live coverage links will be available at WLCSports.com.
