MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Four players scored in double figures and Wisconsin Lutheran College shot at least 50 percent for the 10th time this season in a 70-55 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Marian on Saturday at the Time of Grace Center.
The Warriors (16-4, 11-2 NACC), who never trailed in the game, improved to 10-0 on Catalyst Court this season while also winning their 10th straight game over the Sabres (2-17, 2-10 NACC) in the all-time series.
WLC opened the game with a three-pointer from senior
Jacob Hefle (Germantown, Wis.), but an otherwise slow start had Wisconsin Lutheran up 7-5 with 13 minutes left in the first half. Hefle knocked down three more triples, expanding the Warriors' lead to 21-13 with 6:52 left until halftime. Both teams exchanged baskets down the stretch and WLC took a 35-25 lead into the locker room at intermission. Wisconsin Lutheran shot nearly 60 percent from the floor and made seven of its 13 shots from beyond the arc in the first half, as Hefle netted all 14 of his points in the opening 20 minutes.
Both teams traded baskets to start the second half and MU cut its deficit down to seven, forcing a Warriors timeout with 16:01 remaining. Following the timeout, WLC extended its lead back to nine points behind a pair of threes from senior
AJ Vos (Lombard, Ill.). Marian never cut Wisconsin Lutheran's lead under 10 points for the final 10:16 and a layup from senior
Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.) gave the Warriors a 63-47 advantage, their largest of the game, with 3:25 remaining. WLC knocked down five of six free throws over the last 1:39 to remain unbeaten at home this season.
Stoltz led Wisconsin Lutheran with 18 points and seven assists, both game highs, along with six rebounds. Vos had 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Hefle added 14 points and senior
Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.) finished with 10 points. The Warriors shot 53.5 percent (23-for-43) from the field and 45.5 percent (10-for-22) from downtown.
Eli Vogel scored a team-high 17 points to pace three players in double figures for the Sabres, who shot 41.8 percent (23-for-55) on their field goal attempts.
