Men's Soccer Shows Its Mettle In Bounce-Back Win Over BenU

Early Meaux, Cervantes goals allow for first series road win since 2012

LISLE, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College bounced back from its first conference loss earlier this week with a 2-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Benedictine on Saturday at Village of Lisle-Benedictine Sports Complex. It marked the Warriors' first win in Lisle since 2012.

WLC struck first in the 25th minute when graduate student Ben Meaux (Franklin, Wis.) received a header from sophomore Andrew King (East Moline, Ill.) and finished into the bottom right corner from 10 yards out for his second goal of the season. Five minutes later, sophomore Aiden Fitz (Madison, Wis.) and senior Tony Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.) connected on a pair of passes to sophomore Hector Cervantes (Milwaukee, Wis.), who dribbled past a charging Eagles keeper for an easy finish from 10 yards away for his fourth goal of the year.

BenU cut its deficit in half in the 37th minute with a goal from Aldo Alfaro, who received an end line pass from Manny Casillas. Wisconsin Lutheran edged Benedictine 6-4 in first-half shots, but both sides had a trio of shots on target.

Neither team could add to its scoring total in the second half, as the Eagles narrowly out-shot the Warriors 5-3, including 2-1 on goal. Senior Titus Kostrzewa (Wauwatosa, Wis.) tallied WLC's lone shot on frame in the final 45 minutes.

Kostrzewa led Wisconsin Lutheran with a game-high four shots. Senior Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) made four saves.

Thomas Suchecki recorded three shots for BenU (5-5-2, 3-3-1 NACC).

The Warriors wrap up a three-game NACC road trip on Wednesday at St. Norbert (3-7-3, 3-3-1 NACC). Kickoff from De Pere is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
