Wisconsin Lutheran Suffers First NACC Setback

Lakeland overcomes 1-0 deficit in second half

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College suffered its first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference loss of the season on Wednesday at Taylor Field, falling to Lakeland 2-1 for just the second time in the last 13 meetings.

The Warriors (7-3-2, 3-1-2 NACC) played through a scoreless first half with the Muskies, despite out-shooting them 4-0, including 2-0 in shots on goal.

Four minutes into the second half, WLC grabbed a 1-0 lead on freshman Cole Luedke's (Hartland, Wis.) first career goal, assisted by seniors Titus Kostrzewa (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and Tony Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.).

LU evened the contest in the 62nd minute off a corner kick goal by Dirk Dell Adema that was assisted by Jordan Davis-Troller and Aldo Rangel. Lakeland jumped ahead 2-1 in the 76th minute as Dunia Wangu chipped in a shot from 15 yards out that was sent in from Porter Gigstead.

Wisconsin Lutheran had a chance to tie the contest on an 86th minute penalty kick following a Muskies foul in the box, but junior Jack Leffel (Germantown, Wis.) had his shot attempt blocked by a diving LU keeper Matt English.

The Warriors out-shot Lakeland 9-3 for the match, including 5-2 on frame. Corner kicks were even at 3-3, but the Muskies held a commanding 16-7 advantage in fouls. Luedke led WLC with three shots.

English and starting goalkeeper Zach Heiman combined for four saves for the Muskies (3-9-0, 2-5-0 NACC).

Wisconsin Lutheran travels to Lisle, Illinois on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. NACC matchup against Benedictine (5-4-2, 3-2-1 NACC). Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
