WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) -Â Four newcomers contributed to Wisconsin Lutheran College's three goals in a 3-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Lakeland on Wednesday at Warriors Soccer Field.
The Warriors (7-3-1, 3-2-1 NACC), who improved to 5-1-0 at home this year, matched their win total from a season ago with six regular season games remaining.
Freshman
Alaena Zastrow (De Pere, Wis.) put WLC in front 1-0 in the 32nd minute when her left-footed strike from just outside the box found the upper left corner of the net. Freshman
Emily Comaris (Milwaukee, Wis.) setup Zastrow with the score. Wisconsin Lutheran went into halftime maintaining its one-goal lead, while out-shooting the Muskies 17-4.
In the 54th minute, freshman
Ava Zarling (Jackson, Wis.) dribbled to the end line only to find an open freshman
Ginny Shade (Thornton, Colo.) in the middle of the box for a 2-0 Warriors lead. Zarling finished the scoring in the 83rd minute when she made a nifty move past a LU defender on the left side of the box to finish into the lower right corner.Â
WLC controlled the shot count 29-8 over Lakeland and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Shade led Wisconsin Lutheran with nine shots, while Zarling added seven. Freshman
Sam Schroeder (Brookfield, Wis.) and sophomore
Kallista Street (Kenosha, Wis.) combined for the shared shutout while making three saves.
Ingrid Steinbock made 11 saves for Lakeland (1-7-3, 0-4-3 NACC).
