James Biedenbender (La Crosse, Wis.) recorded his second career double-double and senior
Chris Mann (Laveen, Ariz.) had a season-high 10 kills, but Wisconsin Lutheran College was upended 3-1 by Edgewood on Friday at the Time of Grace Center.
The Warriors (0-9, 0-2 NACC) fell in four sets to the Eagles (4-7, 1-0 NACC) by scores of 25-15, 23-25, 25-14, 25-22.
After an early 1-1 tie, EC went on a 14-5 scoring run to give itself a 15-6 advantage. WLC was able to cut the deficit to seven, but was unable to get any closer as it dropped the first set 25-15.
Wisconsin Lutheran and Edgewood exchanged leads twice in the opening points of the second set and the Eagles held a 10-8 lead. The Warriors responded with a 5-1 run minutes later to give them a 17-14 advantage. EC answered with the next three points, knotting the score up at 17 apiece. WLC regained a 19-18 lead thanks to a kill from sophomore
Drew Wempner (West Allis, Wis.) and didn't let it up the rest of the way, winning the second set 25-23.
Edgewood opened the third set with a 5-0 scoring run and extended its lead to 10 before Wisconsin Lutheran answered with three straight resulting in a 17-10 Warriors deficit. The Eagles closed out the set taking eight of the final 12 points and picked up the third set with a score of 25-14.
EC opened the fourth set with a 4-0 spurt and extended its early lead to 10-4, but a 7-2 scoring run by WLCÂ cut the deficit to two. Wisconsin Lutheran came within one multiple times down the stretch, but was unable to close the gap, dropping the fourth set and the match with a 25-22 score.Â
The Warriors hit .107 on 35 kills, 23 errors, and 112 attempts. Mann led the way for WLC with 10 kills along seven digs. Freshman
Sean Kane (Tinley Park, Ill.) collected seven kills. Biedenbender recorded a career-high 28 assists with 12 digs for his second career double-double. Sophomore
Trevor Salutric (Lockport, Ill.) added nine digs.
Edgewood finished the match with a .267 hitting percentage behind 53 kills, 21 errors, and 120 total attacks. Ryder Hill-Zastrow had a match-high 13 kills and Will Gehrke added a match-high 30 assists.
