MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Four players scored in double figures and senior
Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.) became the 25th player in program history to score 1,000 career points, as Wisconsin Lutheran College won its fifth straight game, 93-66, over Illinois Tech on Wednesday at Time of Grace Center.
The Warriors (19-4, 14-2 NACC), who improved to 11-0 at home, registered their second-largest margin of victory of the season against the Scarlet Hawks (5-18, 4-12 NACC).
WLC stormed out to a 19-4 lead over IIT less than five minutes in after making seven of its first nine shot attempts. Senior
Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.) netted 10 points during the opening run. Senior
Ryan Broeckel's (Chilton, Wis.) three-pointer at the 13:49 mark gave Wisconsin Lutheran an 18-point lead at 24-6. Four minutes later, Illinois Tech whittled its deficit down to 11 points, before the Warriors responded with a 10-0 run to lead 38-17 with four minutes left. Sophomore
Ja'Quell Chisom (Milwaukee, Wis.) sparked a late run with seven points and WLC's lead reached 28 at 52-24 at halftime. Broeckel and Stoltz scored 13 first-half points, while Goetz added 10 for Wisconsin Lutheran, which shot a blistering 61.3 percent.
The Scarlet Hawks started the second half on an 8-0 run, their largest of the game, but the Warriors' lead remained at least 20 points for the next 11 minutes of game time. Chisom capped a 10-2 run with a three-pointer at the nine-and-a-half minute mark for a game-high 31-point cushion at 76-45. A late surge from IIT had them trialing by 17 points with 3:55 to play, but WLC iced the win by scoring the game's final 10 points. Goetz's three-pointer from the top of the arc with 1:24 on the clock gave him exactly 1,000 points for his career.Â
Broeckel scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, tied a game-high with seven rebounds, while adding four assists and three steals. Goetz finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Stoltz tallied 14 points and six assists, while Chisom chipped in a season-high 12 points off the bench. Wisconsin Lutheran, which reached the 90-point mark for the sixth time this season, put together its second-best shooting night of the year at 55.0 percent (33-for-60).
Tomas Teklegergis scored a team-high 20 points to pace Illinois Tech, which shot 47.3 percent (26-for-55) for the game.
