Wisconsin Lutheran Falls To NACC-Leading Dominican

Warriors host final two home matches next week

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College suffered a 3-0 sweep to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference-leading Dominican on Saturday at Igini Sports Forum.

The Warriors (3-17, 0-8 NACC), who were held to their second-lowest hitting percentage of the season, fell to the Stars (13-7, 8-1 NACC) by scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-15.

WLC held a 6-4 lead in the first set following a kill from junior Jay Thammavongsa (Franklin, Wis.). However, DU responded with a 10-0 scoring run to take an eight-point advantage. Dominican maintained at least a seven-point cushion the rest of the set to take the opener 25-12. 

The Stars broke away from a tight 11-10 score in the second set with an 8-1 run. Wisconsin Lutheran couldn't get any closer than six the rest of the way as it fell 25-15.

DU jumped out to an 8-2 third set lead and never trailed. The Warriors came within four points shortly after at 9-5, but were unable to get any closer as Dominican took the third set 25-15.

Freshman Sean Kane (Tinley Park, Ill.) collected a team-high six kills and two service aces for WLC, which totaled 18 kills, 26 errors, and 68 attempts. Sophomore Drew Wempner (West Allis, Wis.) finished with five kills. Thammavongsa led the team with eight assists. Thammavongsa, Drew Wempner, and sophomore Trevor Salutric (Lockport, Ill.) had three digs apiece.

Aaron Marrs had posted five kills and Casey Goss tallied six service aces and six digs for Dominican, which hit .340 on 23 kills, seven errors, and 47 attempts.

Wisconsin Lutheran plays host to its final two home matches of the regular season next week, starting Tuesday with a 7 p.m. NACC contest against Concordia Wisconsin (9-7, 5-2 NACC). Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
