FRANKLIN, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College fell victim to a pair of big innings from Edgewood in both games of its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Wednesday at a blustery Franklin Field. The Warriors were defeated by the Eagles 19-9 in game one before dropping an 18-8 decision in game two.
EC plated eight runs on six hits in the top of the first inning of the opener to take control early. All eight tallies came after two outs. WLC scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, behind a bases loaded walk drawn by junior
Nolan Hodgins (Caledonia, Wis.) and a fielder's choice groundout from junior
Noah Zaccanti (Geneva, Ill.).Â
Edgewood added six runs on five hits to its total in the third inning, before a Zaccanti RBI double and a two-run double from freshman
Aiden Montgomery (St. Louis, Mo.) brought in three runs in the last of the third. The Eagles tacked on a single run in the fourth and four in the fifth to cap their scoring. Wisconsin Lutheran's first four batters reached safely in the last of the seventh, as a two-run double from Zaccanti, and RBI singles from senior
Henry Strupp (Watertown, Wis.)Â and sophomore
Oliver Lopeztello (Chicago, Ill.) capped the four-run final frame.
Zaccanti finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored, while Hodgins went 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs, and a RBI. Lopeztello also added two hits and Montgomery drove in a pair.
The Warriors answered an EC game two first-inning sacrifice fly with a two-run homerun to right center from Hodgins for his fourth of the season. Edgewood jumped back in the front in the second with three runs on three hits, but Montgomery brought WLC back within a run when he scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the frame.
The Eagles broke the game open the next inning with nine runs on seven hits. Wisconsin Lutheran answered EC's two runs in the fifth with a RBI double from sophomore
Eli Michaelis (Wauwatosa, Wis.), who also later scored on a wild pitch. Edgewood (8-6, 2-0 NACC) added a single run in the sixth and its final two in the seventh. The Warriors got a two-run triple from freshman
