Martin Surpasses 200 Career Hits In Softball's Setbacks To Spartans

Senior finishes doubleheader 4-for-6

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Senior Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) surpassed 200 career hits, but Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped a Northern Athletics Collegaite Conference doubleheader to Aurora by scores of 6-1 and 8-1 on Tuesday at Neumann Family Field.

After two quick scoreless innings in game one, the Spartans (19-8, 8-6 NACC) scored three unearned runs on just one hit in the third inning for a three-run lead. The Warriors (9-17, 5-7 NACC) got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Martin's two-out single to right center drove in junior Olivia Krieser (Stoughton, Wis.). AU added two runs in the fourth on a RBI groundout and bunt single for a 5-1 lead. Aurora plated its final run in the sixth on a two-out, run-scoring single.

Martin and freshman Madison Heller (South Milwaukee, Wis.) each went 2-for-3 for WLC in the opener. Freshmen Alea Anhalt (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and Sommer Krull (New London, Wis.) had one hit each.

The Spartans scored an unearned run in the first inning of game two for an early lead. Martin's two-out double to right center in the bottom of the first put her at 200 hits for her career. After a scoreless second, AU added at least a single tally over the final five innings. After four straight three-up, three-down innings, Wisconsin Lutheran got on the board in the bottom of the seventh on senior Maddy Chestolowski's (Appleton, Wis.) sacrifice fly to center that scored freshman Emily Rodriguez (Chicago, Ill.).

Martin, who has 201 career hits, also went 2-for-3 in game two for the Warriors. Chestolowski, senior Briana Vilches (Fontana, Calif.) and junior Allison Powers (Sun Prairie, Wis.) added a hit each.
