Nationally-Ranked Dominican Rallies Late To Sweep WLC

Heller leads Warriors with three hits

ROSEMONT, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped a Northern Atheltics Collegiate Conference doubleheader to 21st-ranked Dominican on Saturday at The Stadium at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex. The Warriors were shutout  7-0 in game one, before falling 9-5 in game two behind a late Stars' rally.

DU (28-2, 13-1 NACC) scored three second-inning runs on four straight hits after two outs to take the lead in game one. Dominican added two runs on four hits to its total in the third inning. After two straight scoreless frames, WLC (9-21, 5-9 NACC) loaded the bases with just one out in the sixth, but couldn't manufacture a run. The Stars tacked on two runs on two hits in the sixth for their final tallies.

Freshman Madison Heller (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and senior Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) each went 2-for-3 in the opener for Wisconsin Lutheran. Senior Maddy Chestolowski (Appleton, Wis.) collected the team's fifth hit, while senior Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.) drew a pair of walks.

DU broke a scoreless game two in the bottom of the third inning with a pair of RBI singles for the two-run advantage. A successful sacrifice bunt drove in a third run in the fifth inning. The Warriors put together a five-run sixth to jump in front. Freshman Alea Anhalt's (Fond du Lac, Wis.) bases-clearing triple scored Heller, Martin, and Corley to knot the score at 3-3. A RBI single from sophomore Emily Cardenas (Lake Stevens, Wash.) two batters later plated Anhalt for a 4-3 lead, and a RBI groundout from Chestolowski that drove home junior Gwen Malecke (Gilberts, Ill.) gave WLC a 5-3 lead heading to the last of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, however, Dominican rattled off seven hits and scored six runs to jump back ahead by four at 9-5.

Five players posted one hit apiece for the Warriors in game two. Anhalt drove in three runs, while Cardenas and Chestolowski had a RBI each.

WLC returns to Neumann Family Field tomorrow for a Senior Day NACC doubleheader against Concordia Wisconsin (13-9, 7-3 NACC). First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
