Men's Soccer Secures 1-0 Shutout Over Ripon

Season-opening unbeaten streak extended to six games

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Senior Titus Kostrzewa (Wauwatosa, Wis.) scored the game-winning goal in the 40th minute to lead Wisconsin Lutheran College past Ripon 1-0 on Friday at Warriors Soccer Field.

The Warriors (1-0-0), who remained unbeaten across their last six season-opening games, improved to 6-0-2 since 2013 against the Red Hawks (0-1-0).

WLC, which held an 8-2 cushion in first-half shots, took advantage of its lone shot on frame in the opening half. In the 40th minute, Kostrzewa finished off a pass from sophomore Hector Cervantes (Milwaukee, Wis.) into the bottom left corner of the net for his second career goal and a 1-0 Wisconsin Lutheran lead.

Both teams placed a pair of shots on frame in a scoreless second half. Senior goalkeeper Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) made key stopes in the 80th and 82nd minute to preserve the season-opening shutout.

The Warriors out-shot RC 15-8 and dominated the corner kick count 8-1. Senior Tony Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.) tied a match high with three shots.

WLC travels to Winona, Minnesota next Friday for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest against Saint Mary's (1-0-0). Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
